The club is committed to continuing the adult trips program going this year. The adult trip program will include:

  • evening trips
  • day trips
  • overnight trips
  • all types of water (flat/white water) and
  • all types of canoes and kayaks.

 

 

Here's the trips we are running this year:

Sunday May 7th, 2017 - Yukon River

Marsh Lake Bridge to Schwatka Lake

Join Walter Brennan on this beautiful stretch of the Yukon River

Logistics;
Meet at Schwatka Lake at the bottom of the Miles Canyon Hill near the lake at 10:00 am.  People can leave a couple of vehicles there for a shuttle and head out to Marsh lake by 10:30.  For those who will arrive at Marsh Lake later we turn off on the left just before crossing the bridge.  This will take between 5 and 6 hours to complete depending on the wind. People should bring a lunch and something to drink.  Bring some warm clothes and rain gear 'just in case'.

Requirements:

  • Must be a YCKC member
  • paddles including spare

  • PFD

  • spare clothes

  • rain gear

  • bow and stern lines

  • min 15m throw bag

  • bailer

  • Bring Lunch and Hot drinks.

 

Saturday May 20th, 2017 - Takhini River

Paddle with the President John Quinsey on the scenic Takhini River

Meet at 9:30 am at Hwy Rest Stop, east side of Alaska Hwy, between Cousins Air Strip and North Klondike hwy cutoff.

Put in at Takhini River Campground at 11:00 am.
Take out at Mendenhall Landing at 5:00 pm. (approx.)

  • Must be a YCKC member
  • PFD mandatory for all participants
  • Helmet mandatory for kayakers, strongly recommended canoeists who chose to run, rather than portage rapid.
  • Throw bag mandatory.  
  • Floatation is recommended for canoes.
  • Cold water immersion clothing or change of clothes in a waterproof bag/barrel.
  • Closed toe footwear
  • Spare clothes
  • First aid kit.
  • Fire starter.
  • Food and water.

Sunday, June 4th - O'Donnell River

Join YCKC execs Theresa Landman (current) and Sean Stark (past) along with Dave Lariviere on the rarely paddled O'Donnell River just outside of Atlin, BC.

Meet at Robert Service Way pullout on Alaska hwy @ 5:30pm Saturday June 3rd. Carpool to Pine Creek Campground on the Warm Springs Rd.  Will get an early start on Sunday as it is a long day on the river.  Take out is Warm Bay on Atlin Lake, put in is @25 km up dirt road.  Will need trucks preferably 4x4 for shuttle

Sunday July 9th, 2017 - Watson River

Join YCKC board member Theresa Landman on a rare journey down the Watson River.

·       Must be a YCKC member

·       PFD mandatory for all participants

·       Helmet mandatory for kayakers, pack rafters, recommended for canoeists

·       Throw bag mandatory.  

·       River Knife

·       Flotation is recommended for canoes.

·       Spare paddle

·       Dry suit or wetsuit/paddle top

·       First aid kit, if you have one

·       Fire starter kit

·       Competency in Class 3 whitewater

·       4x4 truck if you have one

·       Be self sufficient, bring all your own food, camping gear etc.

 

 

July 12th, 2017 - Wheaton River

Join YCKC board member Bryan Allemang on a fun evening run of the Wheaton River

  • Must be a YCKC member
  • PFD mandatory for all participants
  • Helmet mandatory for kayakers, recommended canoeists
  • Throw bag mandatory.  
  • Floatation is recommended for canoes.
  • Competency in Class 2+ whitewater

August 6-13, 2017 - Carmacks to Dawson City

Join YCKC board member Judy Hartling on a spectacular trip down the Yukon River.

  • Must be a YCKC member
  • Must have some multi-day paddling and camping experience
  • Self supported trip
  • Group breakfasts and dinners - paddlers take turns providing them.
  • Lunch is on your own.
  • Some equipment can be borrowed from the club.
